Athleads vs Scoutastic: An Honest Comparison
Both are scouting platforms with AI, report templates, shadow teams and mobile apps. The differences are in how you pay, how much the tool bends to your process, and how much of your scouting it brings into one place.

On paper, the two tools look alike. The differences are in how you pay, who adapts to whom, and how much of your scouting ends up in one place.
Athleads and Scoutastic are both built for the same job: helping a scouting department write, organise and decide on players. Both have AI, custom report templates, shadow teams, shortlists, a scouting calendar, and iOS and Android apps. So a feature checklist will not tell you much.
This post is written by the Athleads team. We have tried to be fair, and every Scoutastic detail below comes from Scoutastic's own website. Check it yourself before you decide, because both products change often.
The background
Scoutastic is based in Bremen. It started in 2017 as a pilot between JUST ADD AI and Werder Bremen and became an independent company in 2020. It is now a joint venture with Transfermarkt, and says it has over 130 customers worldwide, many of them professional clubs.
Athleads has been part of scouting since 2019, and over 11,000 scouting reports have been written in it. It is used by clubs and academies, and also by scouting agencies and independent scouts.
What both do
- Custom report templates and AI summaries of reports
- Shadow teams and shortlists
- Player comparison
- A scouting calendar
- Reading a lineup from a photo of the team sheet
- iOS and Android apps
If one of these is all you need, either tool will do it. Decide on the differences below.
Where Scoutastic is stronger
- Transfermarkt data. Scoutastic describes itself as Transfermarkt's only data partner, with Transfermarkt and Soccerdonna data available. If market values and contract data drive your decisions, that matters.
- On-premise hosting. Scoutastic can run in the cloud or on your own servers. Some clubs require that. Athleads is cloud only.
- Club-wide modules. It offers coach scouting, a youth academy module, and a squad manager with budget scenarios.
- Migration from club systems. It lists migration from ISF, SAP Sports One and Soccerlab, plus single sign-on.
- Track record. More than 130 customers is a long list of clubs that have already rolled it out.
Where Athleads is stronger
- Simple pricing that does not grow with your network. You pay only for the people who run your scouting, like the head of scouting, their assistant or whoever plans the schedule. Everyone who creates content, from scouts writing reports to youth coaches, joins free, because the more they write, the more your club knows. Viewers are free too, and the price does not depend on which league your club plays in. A two-person department, an academy and a top-flight club pay the same way, and adding twenty regional scouts adds nothing to the bill.
- It fits your workflow, not the other way round. Your report templates, your own player fields, your saved views and boards. Athleads is built to adapt to how your department already works, so the tool follows your process instead of replacing it.
- Everything about a player in one profile. Official Sportmonks data, the providers your club already subscribes to (such as StatsBomb, Impect or Noisefeed, connected with your own licence, and others on request), every report, and your own CRM fields such as salary expectations, agent contact and transfer fee. Fewer tabs, no WhatsApp threads, no digging through email.
- AI on your own data. Summaries of every report on a player, plain-language search across your reports and stats, and comparisons, all built only on your data. Scouts can also ask ChatGPT or Claude about your players through a read-only connector, which stays off until an admin turns it on.
- Scouting trips. Pick the fixtures you want to see and Athleads works out the travel between games, then gives you a PDF to carry.
How to choose
- You need Transfermarkt data, on-premise hosting, or a module for the whole club: look at Scoutastic first.
- You want one place for all your scouting, set up around your own process, with a price that stays the same as your network grows: look at Athleads first.
On cost, Athleads charges a fixed price for the people who run your scouting, and scouts, coaches and viewers who create or read content are free. Scoutastic does not publish its pricing, so ask: how many seats are included, who counts as a paid seat, what is an add-on, how long is the contract, and can you export your reports if you leave. Then run the same job in both during the trial. Write one report and build one shortlist from scratch.
